In this Diablo 4 Endgame Guide article, we are going to take a look at what you should do after completing the main campaign. What is there to do after that, what you should prioritize, and what you should focus on in order to get out most of your time spent? Doing so will help you complete everything you want to do. If you are searching for a comprehensive guide on what Endgame looks like and what these activities mean for your Diablo 4 Builds, then this Guide is for you!
Diablo 4 Endgame Guide
So the first thing that you want to do after you finish the main campaign is try to get to level 50 if you are not there already. If you finished the campaign and you are well over level 50 this is not going to be a problem for you. But the Dungeon you need to do is called the Cathedral of Light Capstone Dungeon, which is in the northern part of Kyovashad.
Since the enemies in that Dungeon range from about level 50-53, you are going to struggle in that dungeon if you are not around level 50. So go get your level up to that, if it’s not. If it’s already there that’s fine. If it’s higher, that is fine. Once you’ve done that, you want to go into the Dungeon and complete it. Doing so will allow you to go to World Tier 3 where most of the endgame activities are available to you.
Diablo 4 Endgame Guide – Tree of Whispers
There are three activities for you to do, there are Tree of Whispers Quests, Helltides that appear periodically, and Nightmare Dungeons that you are going to farm. The Tree of Whispers basically gives you random objectives around certain zones in D4 that keep moving around. You can think of these as bounties where you kill monsters, run a Dungeon, etcetera.
Each one of these activities is worth a certain amount of points. Afterward, you are going to take it back to the Tree of Whispers and redeem it for a cache of goods. Sometimes these are Two-Handed Weapons, Chest pieces, or a higher rolled cache that has even better gear so you want to make sure you get that when you can. But this is an easy way to get some good Equipment if you are struggling to farm them when you first get to World Tier 3. Additionally, you will need to do this one time in order to get a Nightmare Sigil which will allow you to enter a Nightmare Dungeon.
Diablo 4 Endgame Guide – Nightmare Dungeons
Nightmare Dungeons are essentially special versions of regular Dungeons where you consume a Sigil. This can be found in the Consumables tab of your inventory, and this converts a specific Dungeon into a tier of a Nightmare Dungeon. You start at Nightmare Tier 1 with some sort of buff that also has negative effects. Perhaps enemies explode when they die, or maybe something follows you around and drops lightning from the sky periodically. There is a slew of different negative and positive effects that you will gain while running these Nightmare Dungeons, making them more challenging.
There are a couple of reasons why you would want to engage in this specific type of activity. First is the fact that these Dungeons are regularly filled with large groups of Elites like 4, 5, or even 6 of them at a time. They are the ones who are always dropping rares. They are here in abundance and that increases your chances of getting Legendaries from killing these enemy types. The more you kill, the more chance you have. It is just a numbers game so Nightmare Dungeons are a very good source of Legendary Items.
Additionally, completing them will allow you to assign experience points to one of your Paragon Glyphs allowing you to make it stronger and stronger. And I’ll talk a little bit about what that is. So as you pass level 50 and you progress in the Paragon System, you are going to put points in your Paragon Board. As such, you will gain extra Stats, and periodically you’ll come to sockets on these boards that will allow you to select Glyphs, which have different effects. Now these Glyphs are just loot drops that you will randomly get from doing different activities in Diablo 4 like doing Tree of Whispers or Nightmare Dungeons. When you have the one you like, you can slot the Glyph into that board and its corresponding can get stronger and stronger the more it levels up.
You can assign the Paragon Board whichever Glyph you want even if it is not the one you are using. If you plan to try some other Glyph, and you want to level it up, that’s fine, you can do whatever you want to do there. But the higher the level of the Nightmare Tiers, the more experience you gain for those Glyphs. Obviously, enemies will also become more challenging so defeating them will require a better Diablo 4 Build to get through. But you will get more experience by leveling up those Glyphs, making it faster to reach their higher levels.
Diablo 4 Endgame Guide – Sacred Legendary Items
So your objective at level 50 onward should be to farm Legendaries, specifically Sacred Legendaries at World Tier 3. It is essentially the better version of everything you have seen before. So if you get Sacred Rare, Sacred Magic Item, or a Sacred Legendary, it is basically just a slightly better version of the ones you have.
So aside from improving these Glyphs and getting experience for them to make them more effective, you should be leveling up while also replacing all of your current Legendaries with Sacred versions or the ones you need for your Build. Because they are slightly better. You could also upgrade these types of Equipment one more time than your regular Legendaries. Normally, you can upgrade Legendaries 4x in The Blacksmith or in The Jeweler, but you can upgrade Sacred items 5x, letting you get some more โoomphโ out of their bonuses.
Diablo 4 Endgame Guide – Helltides
And next, we come to Helltides, which are random events that happen in one particular zone on the map that usually lasts for 90 minutes or 2 hours. You are going to go into these zones and battle enemies with meteors coming down on you. There are also rare crafting materials that you can only find while Helltides are ongoing. You will want them so you can tinker with your Equipment. You should definitely spend time in this activity to kill enemies and gain a resource that allows you to open a chest that almost contains a Sacred Legendary.
But not that it is not 100% guaranteed because I have opened some before that did not have one. But it is the chances range from 80 to 90% that you will get a Sacred Legendary. These chests have varying amounts on them based on what they are such as a cheaper piece of Armor, for example, compared to a Two-Handed Weapon or a piece of Jewelry. So you need to decide based on what you can see on your map, and the time you have remaining what you want to get out of these chests. And then you will start farming and killing enemies and Bosses, doing events inside them in order to gain as much of these resources to acquire more Legendaries.
Keep in mind though that you need to be very careful when you are in this area since there are extremely powerful Bosses, which have much higher levels than you. The first time I was in here, I ran into a level 70 Boss and I was at level 50. As such, I dealt no damage so I had to run away. You can get killed very easily and you may want to avoid dying at all costs in Helltides, otherwise, you lose half of your current accumulated resources.
So if you have 150, and you are about to go to your chest but you die, now you have 75 of these remaining. So it is a good idea to spend these resources the moment you get enough for what you want. This way, you will guarantee yourself that Legendary rather than trying to save up as much as you can and then going on a spending spree.
World Bosses
The next thing you are going to notice is World Bosses. These start to appear when you finish the campaign. And you are going to be able to do these with other players. Whether you are in a group or just around them, it will not really matter. You will see a marker on your map with a World Boss countdown timer when they appear. This activity usually has a wait time of 30 minutes. So you need to go to that location and be there when it starts or join in the middle if you are lucky, and help take them down.
Once completed, you will get a weekly chest. This has a bunch of Legendary items, and crafting materials and you get a guaranteed Legendary drop from the World Boss itself. So you definitely want to do this every time the timer is active because it is a great way to get guaranteed Legendaries. It is also fun to play with other players and they are not too difficult in my experience. I think we have not failed one yet so it is almost a guaranteed loot.
Side Quests & Reputation
Lastly, for this Diablo 4 Endgame Guide, you will want to go around to do side Quests and make sure that you have conquered all of the Strongholds. Remember to also discover all the Altars of Lilith, if you didn’t do so when you went through the game, which you probably didn’t. Use our Diablo 4 Map to find them all. This is going to give you a reputation with the different factions, and you want to make sure you have at least Rank 3 in order to have the Skills and Healing Potions to help you in your Nightmare Dungeons.
But you also want to continue to pass this at some point because as you reach the last rank in these different Reputations, you are going to get 4 Paragon Points per region, which is a lot. When you add them all up, that’s 20 Paragon Points. The Paragon System is what is going to make your character a lot stronger, especially as you get to the higher 70 or 80 levels of Diablo IV.
Level 70+
Once you reach level 70 or so, and you feel confident, you can go and do the Fallen Temple Capstone Dungeon in the Dry Steppes. Once completed, it will allow you to change the World Tier Difficulty to 4, letting you do Torment Difficulty. Here, you will face tougher enemies, which gives you more experience so you can level up faster. There are also new items, called Ancestrals. These are basically a more powerful version of Sacreds like how Sacreds are to the regular versions. Plus, you will find new Uniques on this difficulty that you cannot get on World Tier 3.
So that’s the general idea of the things you want to do when you reach the endgame. I highly recommend doing some Tree of Whispers, or Whisper of the Dead Quests until you feel confident. When you have good enough gear, you should enter Nightmare Dungeons. Try it, and see where you are at. If you are struggling, do some Whisper of the Dead stuff. And if you are ok, continue doing Nightmare Dungeons to get better and better gear. Perhaps, you can even mix it up every now and then with Helltides in addition to doing some questing to get more reputations with certain factions.
One thing I do want to mention is that on higher difficulties, you should not neglect your resistances and defense. A lot of the early game is spent on getting the best Offensive Legendary Aspects to make your character really crank out DPS because killing enemies faster is a good strategy and that is true. But in the endgame, enemies hit much, much harder so do not neglect your resistances or your Armor.
Make sure you have some good defensive aspects on your gear when you go into these Dungeons or you will have a hard time at some point. It may not be your first couple of Dungeons but you will hit a wall and it is usually because you neglected the defensive part of your Build. Make sure you have good defensive Skills, good resistances, Armor, and good aspects that will get you out of bad situations.
That wraps up our endgame guide to give you ideas on what you should focus on when you get there. If you have other alt characters or if you want to create a new Class, you can skip the campaign and start going right into Whisper of the Dead activities on your new character. You can do this at a lower tier of the game because this activity is available by then to gain experience. Anyway, you have other activities to do like Dungeons and side quests for experience.
To skip the campaign, go to the Main Menu and click “Skip Campaign” on those characters even if they already exist and you are already mid-progress with them when you finish the campaign on your main character.
