CI Games has confirmed a sequel to Lords of the Fallen, the soulslike action RPG developed by HexWorks. The announcement was not made through a trailer at the Summer Game Fest but via a press release that confirms the initial details.
Lords of the Fallen 2 Announced Its Release Year & Publisher
This news was known some time ago, as they hurried to announce the sequel when sales were favorable, but it is now that we have learned more details. On the one hand, we have been informed that its title will be Lords of the Fallen 2, and it is scheduled to be released in 2026, so we will still have to wait a while.
Additionally, it has been confirmed that the PC version will be published by Epic Games, meaning it will be exclusive to the Epic Games Store throughout “its entire lifecycle,” as stated by the game’s publisher, CI Games. It has also been revealed that it is being developed using Unreal Engine 5, the latest version of the engine owned by Epic Games.
Lords of the Fallen 2 will be released in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC. CI Games will handle publishing the console versions, but on PC, Epic Games has obtained exclusive rights for the entire commercial life of the product. This means it will most likely be released only on the Epic Games Store and never come to Steam, although details are still being negotiated.
The document refers to Project 3, Lords of the Fallen 2, as an installment that will leverage the recognition and success of the most recent game—remember, there is another with the same name from 2014. The goal, of course, will be to expand the ambition with new gameplay options to attract a larger audience and benefit from the experience gained with Lords of the Fallen. In January, the trademark Death of the Fallen was registered, which could be used for the final title.
It Will Be Developed in Unreal Engine 5
The team will again use Unreal Engine 5, which achieved good results in the predecessor—it is one of the most spectacular soulslikes, at least technically—although its debut suffered some performance issues that marred the experience.
The exclusivity of the Epic Games Store is becoming a strategy increasingly used by several developers. The most recent and perhaps the most notable example is the Kingdom Hearts saga, which announced its launch on Steam three years after releasing in the Epic Games Store, due to a prior temporary exclusivity agreement.
However, it should be noted that this will not be the case for Lords of the Fallen 2. As stated by the title’s publisher, we are talking about what appears to be a permanent exclusivity, which is curious considering its predecessor is available on Steam.
