Elden Ring Announces a Last Update Before Shadow of the Erdtree Release

FromSoftware is preparing for Shadow of the Erdtree and has now announced an update for the Soulslike game. The base game of Elden Ring will soon be updated to add new improvements to the adventure, all before the Day 1 Patch for Shadow of the Erdtree.

Elden Ring Announces a Last Update

This is a new free update for Elden Ring, and it seems that Hidetaka Miyazaki’s studio wants everyone to be ready before the expansion. It appears to be something substantial, as it will combine with the Day 1 Patch for Shadow of the Erdtree, which can be seen on the game’s official social media channels via X/Twitter.

Beyond the usual balance adjustments and bug fixes common in such updates, the patch will include new features to enhance the players’ experience. Among the new elements are a tab highlighting recently obtained items and new hairstyles that players can equip during character creation.

The next free update for Elden Ring will be available this coming Thursday, June 20, and it already has a preview on social media highlighting the main changes, while the rest of the updates are minor and serve as a brief preview of what is to come.

Initial Patch Notes for Elden Ring Update

  • Newly obtained items will be marked with a “!”.
  • A new tab called “Recent Items” has been added to review recently obtained items.
  • Active Summoning Pools will remain in New Game+.
  • Individual Summoning Pools can be activated/deactivated in the new Map Functions Menu. Only active Summoning Pools will be selected when using the Small Golden Effigy.
  • Five new hairstyles have been added to the game. They can be selected during character creation, using the Clouded Mirror, or Rennala’s Rebirth function.

When Does Shadow of the Erdtree Release?

As an additional note, and although we already know that Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree will be released on June 21, the developer has confirmed the exact release time for each region.

PC Requirements for Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree

There’s not much time left to enjoy Shadow of the Erdtree, the highly anticipated expansion for Elden Ring, the successful game from FromSoftware that has already sold 25 million units, set to be released on June 21.

Yesterday, the game’s Twitter account published the minimum and recommended PC requirements, “updated,” though don’t worry, as they are practically the same as the original game, with only a minor change.

As you can see here, the minimum recommended requirements for Elden Ring, which was released in 2022, the only change is the required storage space, which goes from 60 GB to 80 GB to accommodate the expansion. As we mentioned a few days ago, the PS5 version of Shadow of the Erdtree will take up 16.50 GB, so we imagine the other versions will be similar.

Minimum Requirements:

  • OS: Windows 10
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 3 3300X
  • Memory: 12 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3 GB or AMD Radeon RX 580 4 GB
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Storage: 80 GB available space

Recommended Requirements:

  • OS: Windows 10/11
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600X
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 8 GB or AMD Radeon RX Vega 56 8 GB
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Storage: 80 GB available space

The Most Important “Requirement” to Play Shadow of the Erdtree

The most important requirement to enjoy Shadow of the Erdtree on PC, as well as on PlayStation and Xbox consoles, is to have defeated Radahn and Mohg in the main game, something that, as we mentioned a few days ago, less than 40% of players have achieved. So, you still have a few days to prepare, and as we noted in our impressions, this expansion looks excellent. If you need help, you can check out our Guide.
